该基因编码的蛋白质属于高度保守的周期蛋白家族,该家族成员的显著特征是贯穿细胞周期,其蛋白质丰度周期性地急剧改变。周期蛋白作为CDK(周期蛋白依赖性激酶)的调节因子。不同的周期蛋白表现出各自独特的表达及降解特性,这有助于每个有丝分裂事件在时间上的协调性。周期蛋白A1表达于睾丸、大脑以及一些严重的白血病细胞系中,现任为其主要功能是控制减数分裂。该周期蛋白与Cdk1和Cdk2两种激酶相结合,但这两种激酶活性完全不相同,前者激酶活性表现于G2期,而后者激酶活性表现于S期,因此在细胞周期中调控了不同的功能。现发现这种周期蛋白可结合到重要的细胞周期调节物上,后者如:Rb家族蛋白、转录因子E2F1以及CDK抑制蛋白中的Kip/Cip家族[2]。
相互作用
周期蛋白A1能与E2F1[3]、CDC20[4]、视网膜母细胞瘤蛋白[3]、周期蛋白依赖性激酶2[1][5][6][7]、GPS2[8] MYBL2[6]和GNB2L1[8]发生相互作用。
