弗利特河
弗利特河(英语:River Fleet),亦称舰队河,是伦敦最大的地下河,弗利特街(又译“舰队街”)和霍尔本都是得名自这条河。[1] 其源头是来自汉普斯特德荒野的两条溪流,这两条溪流在18世纪蓄水形成汉普斯特德池塘和海格特池塘,舰队河自俩个池塘开始,绵延4英里(6.4千米),在黑衣修士桥下注入泰晤士河。
舰队河的名字来自古英语“flēot”(涨潮的水湾) ,[2] 在罗马不列颠时代,舰队河还是一条主要地上河流,其河口可能还有世界最古老的潮力磨坊。[3] 盎格鲁-撒克逊英格兰的舰队河附近有许多水井,13世纪时被称为“水井河”(River of Wells)。[4] 工业革命时遭到污染,过度用水也使得其流量大为减小,19世纪因为摄政运河的修建而被覆盖。
