萬能布朗
蘭斯洛特·布朗（英語：Lancelot Brown；1715/16年—1783年2月6日）[1]，一般稱為萬能布朗（Capability Brown），是一名英國園林設計師，以為英格蘭鄉村別墅設計的園林出名，對於英格蘭風景園林的形成具有重要推動作用。

他一生設計了170多座園林，很多都保留至今，因為常告訴自己的客戶他的園林具有自我成長的「能力」而獲得暱稱「萬能」[2]。他在世時已頗負盛名，甚至掩蓋了前輩查爾斯·布里奇曼和威廉·肯特的光環與貢獻[3]。但對他的批評也不少，批評者認為他的作品都千篇一律，缺乏想象力[4]。
生平
他出生於英國諾森伯蘭郡柯克哈爾，是家中第五個孩子，父親是當地貴族威廉·洛蘭從男爵的地產經紀人，母親也在洛蘭家的柯克哈爾莊園（Kirkharle Hall）工作[5]。他從學校畢業後成為洛蘭家園丁的學徒。
1739年，他離開故鄉南下謀生，1741年成為斯托的科巴姆勳爵（Lord Cobham）家斯托莊園的園丁[6]，由威廉·肯特指導。26歲時，他成為首席園丁，科巴姆勳爵允許他自己接私活，很多貴族家庭都來找他設計園林，因此成名。他在1760年代年薪達到£6,000（相當於2021年的£873,000），一次委託就要收取£500。1764年，他成為喬治三世漢普敦宮的首席園丁。1770年，他成為劍橋郡和亨廷頓郡郡長（High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire），不過工作基本是他的兒子蘭斯（Lance）做的[7]。
他一生設計了170多座園林，他的作品現在還能在貝爾沃城堡、布萊尼姆宮、華威城堡、哈伍德莊園、海克利爾城堡和邱園等地看到[8]。
