历史

  维甘历史古城

在西班牙殖民前，美岸市就已经是南伊罗戈省的政治与经济中心。

美岸城市保存了16世纪西班牙文化，比如融合亚洲风格与欧洲巴洛克式风格的房屋建筑、鹅卵石街道、马车与西班牙风味的香肠等饮食文化。

在二次大战时，日本军队也曾经从美岸港口登陆，并占领美岸机场。

1969年，台湾屏东枋山与菲律宾美岸之间，在美军驻台期间，曾经建立起48路的数位语音差补技术（英语：Digital Speech Interpolation，DSI）地面微波通信电路，每路可供6条电话通话使用。

地理

美岸位处于东经120 23’ 15’’，北纬17 34’ 30’’，菲律宾最大岛屿吕宋岛的西北边，西面临南海，北边是距离82公里、属于北伊罗戈省的菲律宾最北方首府佬沃，南边离伊罗戈区的省会圣费尔南多 (拉乌尼翁)有138公里，距离南方的马尼拉大都会有407公里。

地形

美岸大多数为平原，有些许小山丘、竹林与鱼池，百分之60的土地作为农业用，百分之32作为住宅区使用，百分之3作为商业与工业用地，百分之1作为政府机构用地。主要的山丘是位于美岸东边、距离市区10公里的Vigan Gap Hill，美岸北边有Govantes河流，另外有Bantay与其分支牙伯拉河与Mestizo河，这些河流除了是灌溉美岸农田的水源，在15到19世纪也是美岸商业贸易的重要水上道路。

土壤

对于以农业用地为主的美岸，主要有以下几种用地：

• Bantay Loam：南方36.67公顷的土地适合畜牧业
• Umingan sandy：1,191.57公顷的土地适合种植蔬菜与稻米
• San Manuel clay loam：1,244.57公顷的土地适合种植香蕉、棉花与蔬菜
• Bantog clay：31.65公顷的陶土土壤适合用来制作陶瓮、陶罐
• 海滩沙地：邻近海边的土地约7.28公顷适合种植可可亚

交通

  美岸西班牙风格的马车

美岸市内交通以公车、吉普尼、三轮车与马车为主，三轮车上的编号，让乘客知道三轮车的来源城市。其中以下几家长途客运公车都在美岸市设有车站：

• Inocencio Aniceto Transportation

另外Fariñas Transit Company与Maria de Leon两家客运公司在美岸没有车站，只有到北方距离美岸一个半小时车程的佬沃有车站。GV Florida Transport客运的车站则是在美岸市周边。

对外道路交通有麦克阿瑟高速公路(菲律宾)通往马尼拉与菲律宾吕宋岛各地，

空中交通有美岸机场，美岸机场是南伊罗戈省内唯一的机场，目前航线目的地有巴士古机场与马尼拉机场。

教育

美岸城市保存了16世纪西班牙文化，市区结构也与欧洲西班牙城镇般依循18世纪启用的（西班牙语：Ley de las Indias）规范，其规范重点为城镇建设必须是棋盘式街道，街道中心必须有广场或是中央公园。

美岸市有中央公园，公园旁是省会首府行政办公室、市政厅大楼，市中心也有萨尔赛多广场（Plaza Salcedo）与布尔戈斯广场（Plaza Burgos），萨尔赛多广场（Plaza Salcedo）有喷水池，周边有美岸大教堂或称圣保罗大教堂，教堂附属博物馆（Museo San Pablo）与环绕广场的市集，建筑方面是融合亚洲风格与欧洲巴洛克式风格的房屋建筑，鹅卵石街道，保留了西班牙时期的马车作为交通工具，古城区的街道名称仍沿用西班牙的街道命名，饮食文化上有西班牙风味香肠，店家作息也是西班牙风格，中午会有午休时间。
